NEW CONTEST to name new Waldorf Inspired Needle Felted Horse

CONTEST CONTEST CONTEST CONTEST CONTEST

Penny has thought and thought, but cannot think of an amazing name for her little horse. She is trying to come up with a "P" name (a name beginning with the letter P) for her little friend. I am hoping some of you will leave a comment helping her name her horse. For the person who gives us the perfect name (Penny will be the final judge) I will happily send out a ball of pure felted plain wool (that I have already rolled then wetted with very warm water and added soap. Then I squeezed and squeezed and rolled it around in my hand till it became a more solid ball. It was then rinsed and squeezed dry and set out to air dry completely.  It is 9 inches around and about 3 inches high. It is now ready to decorate so I will also send the winner some colored roving and I will include a barbed felting needle and instructions. Have you always wanted to try needled felting, but didn't want to invest in all the supplies? Then this is your chance to try it!

So to enter: add a comment below with a "P" name for Penny's horse. Please include an email address so I can contact you if you win. Enter as often as you like, but only one horse NAME per entry. The contest is open NOW (12:35pm, Sunday, February 14th, 2010) and will close on at 11:59pm on Saturday, February 20th, 2010. Winner will be announced Sunday, February 21st. Prize will be mailed out on Monday, February 22nd.
Good luck everybody!

  1. I will say Perry and this is my reason why...

Penny - Penelope wife of Odysseus
Perry - Penelope's mother was Periboea

Ok maybe it doesn't make sense to name the horse after the mother , and Perry doesn't seem very feminine for a pink horse.... but I like reading about greek mythology and using the names :D

Love Penny's hair by the way :D

  2. wow! research and everything! Perry is a really different and cool name. Penny said she would have never thought of it. She has Perry on the first line of her little notepad.

BTW...did JO arrive safely and in time for Valentine's Day? I have not mailed international before. Please let me know!

    Thanks for entering!

  4. How about Persephone? (Pronounce like per SEF on ee)

  5. Oh my Courtney! Where ever did you come up with Persephone? (thanks for the pronounciation, btw!!)

When I told Penny, she gave me a quizzical look, scrunched up her cute little face, thought seriously for a moment and then suddenly a huge happy smile broke out on her face and she said emphatically, "Oh COOL!".

She got out her little notebook, took her pencil and asked me to spell it for her. She had a little trouble at first, but she got it right and it is now #2 on her list of names on her notebook page!

I checked out your blog and LOVE your profile! We are kindred spirits! I was a "breastfeeding-in-public" mama back in the late 1970's - early 1980's. If I had had a blog when I was your age it would have been one of the ways I identified myself for sure! Breastfeeding wasn't "fashionable" back when I had my three children as you can imagine. People equated nursing to something that should be done in the bathroom, like a bodily function. So, when I sat in church, however discreetly, nursing my gulping, humming, happy baby, it caused quite a controversy. Same thing when nursing in stores, etc. But I didn't care. I wouldn't want to eat in a bathroom and I was not about to let anyone bully me into subjecting my babies to that! So I applaud your conviction!

Thanks for entering my contest and Good luck!

  6. Debbie , Persephone is also from Greek Mythology - Hades' wife and queen of the Underworld :]

You could always shorten Persephone into Percy !

ps. I breast feed in public too. My baby is 14 months old though

  7. Percy is a cute abbreviation...any nicknames derived from Courtney's entry will be credited to her however!

I sure hope JO gets there today! I mailed her priority mail last Monday. Don't forget to let me know when she arrives! (feels kinda like my little kid is traveling all the way to Canada alone and she is late!! Haha!)
bet she has been taking a long winters nap enroute to you! Your five year old is gonna love her! You might want to tie up JO's hair in a pony tail or braids till the girls are a little older...just to prevent tangles... But she should definitely hold up to their play!

  8. I think she should be named Pilgrim since you said they were "travelers" and loved to explore together! : )

  9. That is very interesting Sharon! "Pilgrim" is a great name! Never would have thought of it!! Thank you so much! I am glad you entered my contest! Goodluck!

  10. Dear Penny,
I love the name Pippie. It is a shortened form of the Greek name Philippa which means "a lover of horses!" Since your bright pink horse is definitely a favorite with her horse friends and much in demand, the name is so appropriate for her.

  11. Yes I meant for Percy to count for Courtney's entry. I wasn't really entering just playing the game haha.

Anyway , got Jo in the mail today ! Love her !

I'm going to make a post on my blog once I get pictures - which can take me a while sometimes but I'll try to asap :D

I mainly posted my comment for Courtney's benefit -
wanted to make sure she knew we were playing fair!

  13. Sharon, Penny loves the name and says it really makes her feel like she and her horse are truly on an important adventurous journey! She has written "Pilgrim" down as #3. (as you can see in the picture above)

  14. Hi Linda! Thanks for entering my contest! Penny is so excited to be getting such wonderful names for her horse. She might have a hard time deciding!

She said "Pippie" is a happy, funny name that makes her laugh! She has never heard it before and just loves it. It told her what you wrote about it being from the name Phillipa and means lover of horses...she was impressed! She is definitely that!! :)

Pippie is #4 in her book. (Look at the picture above).

    Good luck!

  15. AND THE WINNER IS:

Thanks to all who entered! The names were very imaginative. You may find them in my shop for other horses' names in the future.

But the name for Penny's horse was chosen by an unbiased third party (my husband, with Penny's input) who was unaware of the names of those who entered each name.

    THE WINNER IS:

    "Pippie!!
...because it is a perfect name that really seems to suite Penny's horse!"

Congratulations Linda! You will be receiving your fiber artsy prize by USPS within a few days! Hope you enjoy learning how to needle felt!
